The headline finding for supplements

Of the 46 supplements Shopify storefronts audited in Q2 2026, 33 shipped without the structured-data surface an AI shopping assistant needs to cite them. That is 71.7% of the vertical functionally invisible to ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews when a buyer asks for a recommendation. 13 more, 28.3%, had partial signal at best.

Zero supplements stores met the full ready bar: complete Product JSON-LD with offers.availability, aggregateRating, FAQ schema on the product page, llms.txt at the root, and an AI crawler policy in robots.txt. The top tier was empty for this vertical, as it was across the entire 1,091-store cohort.

AI shoppability tier mix across 46 audited supplements storefronts. Invisible means no Product or Organization JSON-LD detected on homepage or product page. Transitional means partial signal. Ready means full Product + FAQ + llms.txt + crawler policy.

The dominant failure pattern

The top failure cluster for supplements is product and organization schema absent. It affects 31 of 46 audited stores in the vertical, or 67% of them. No JSON-LD on homepage or product page. Google rich results and AI shopping assistants cannot read the catalog.

The pattern is not specific to supplements. Schema absence is the dominant cluster in every one of the eight named verticals. The variation is in the rate, not the shape. A storefront without Product JSON-LD is structurally absent from the AI-shopping recommendation channel, regardless of how good the product or how loud the brand.

How supplements compares to the cohort

Across the full 1,091-store cohort, 72.2% of audited Shopify storefronts are invisible to AI shopping and zero reach the ready bar. Supplements sits at 71.7% invisible, below the cohort figure. The gap between the vertical and the cohort is a matter of degree. The fix path is identical: ship the structured-data surface, decide an AI crawler policy, and complete the Product schema before competitors in the vertical do.

What this means for supplements operators

The hierarchy of next actions is consistent. First, ship Product JSON-LD with the six required fields on every product page (name, image, description, sku, offers.price, offers.priceCurrency), plus offers.availability and aggregateRating when reviews exist. Second, ship Organization JSON-LD on the homepage. Third, decide an AI crawler policy and write it into robots.txt. The work is well-documented, mostly free, and almost always under a day for an operator who knows what to add.

The corpus contains zero supplements stores in the ready tier. There is no mature cohort in this vertical to learn from yet. The first supplements brands that get there will be the ones that treat the back half of 2026 as the window to ship the structured-data surface before the vertical figures it out.
