Home and Living Shopify SEO Benchmark 2026: 122 Stores Audited

Editorial Team, StoreMend Audit. Updated 2026-07-10.

Storemend Team · State of Shopify 2026 · Q2 2026 dataset (2026-06-19)

Part of the State of Shopify 2026 report. This page isolates the home and living vertical from the 1,091-store audit corpus: 122 home-goods Shopify storefronts audited across roughly 140 checks each, scored on the same structured-data and AI-shoppability bar as every other vertical.

The short version: home stores sit almost exactly on the cohort average. Not better, not worse. The single biggest gap is the same one that dominates the whole corpus, and it is fixable.

72% of audited home stores are invisible to AI shopping

88 of the 122 home and living stores audited are functionally invisible to ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. That is 72%, within a fraction of a point of the full-corpus average of 72.2% across all 1,091 stores.

Invisible means no Product or Organization JSON-LD detected on the homepage or product page, so an AI shopping assistant has no structured signal to cite when a buyer asks for a sofa, a rug, or a set of dinnerware in that price band.

68% ship no Product or Organization JSON-LD

83 of the 122 home stores audited (68%) ship no Product or Organization JSON-LD at all. This is the exact cohort mean: 68.1% of the 1,077 classified stores miss the same surface.

Home sits near the middle on the single biggest failure pattern in the entire report. Google rich results need Product schema with offers and an availability state. AI shopping assistants read the same JSON-LD as their primary input. A home store without it is structurally absent from both channels, regardless of catalog quality.

Zero home stores hit the full AI-ready bar

Zero of the 1,091 stores across every vertical met the full AI-ready bar, home included. No store shipped complete Product JSON-LD with aggregateRating, FAQ schema, llms.txt, and a deliberate AI-crawler policy together.

There is no mature home-goods cohort to copy yet. The first home store that ships the full surface is competing against a field where the top tier is empty.

Percentages are calculated against the 122 home stores audited. Schema-absent rate (68%) is reported at the source; the invisible share (88 of 122) rounds to 72%.

Home vs the other audited verticals

Home ranks fourth-largest of the named verticals by store count, above electronics, pet, and supplements. On the schema gap it lands mid-pack, six points below beauty's 74% and seven above pet's 61%.

*Supplements has 46 stores, below the n=50 statistical floor. Read that row as directional. Home, at 122 stores, is well above the floor and load-bearing for the claims on this page.

The takeaway across the table: the dominant failure is schema absence in every vertical. The rate moves a little; the pattern never does. Home is the clearest illustration because it sits right on the average.

What this means for a home-goods operator

Two-thirds of home stores ship without the structured data that decides whether they get cited by Google rich results or by AI shopping assistants. The fix is documented, mostly free, and usually under a day of work for one operator who knows what to add.

The priority order is the same across the corpus:

  1. Ship Product JSON-LD on every product page with name, image, description, sku, offers.price, and offers.priceCurrency, plus offers.availability and aggregateRating when reviews exist.
  2. Ship Organization JSON-LD on the homepage.
  3. Write a deliberate AI-crawler policy into robots.txt.
  4. Fix Open Graph so social shares render a full card.
  5. Audit page-builder JavaScript if the store runs Pagefly, GemPages, or Shogun.

For home stores specifically, structured data carries the attributes buyers filter on: dimensions, material, and price band. An assistant that can read those fields can recommend the product; an assistant that reads nothing cannot.

FAQ

How many home and living Shopify stores were audited? 122 home stores were audited in the Q2 2026 corpus, part of the 1,091-store State of Shopify 2026 report. The vertical is above the n=50 statistical floor, so its numbers are treated as definitive rather than directional.

What share of home stores are invisible to AI shopping assistants? 88 of 122 home stores audited (72%) are functionally invisible to ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews, meaning no Product or Organization JSON-LD was detected on the homepage or product page. That share sits within a fraction of a point of the full-corpus average of 72.2%.

What is the single most common problem in home Shopify stores? Missing structured data. 83 of 122 home stores (68%) ship no Product or Organization JSON-LD, the same dominant pattern found across all 1,077 classified stores in the corpus.

How does home compare to other verticals? Home sits at the cohort average. Its 68% schema-absent rate matches the corpus mean of 68.1% almost exactly, below beauty (74%) and food and CPG (70%), above electronics (65%) and pet (61%).

How do I fix it? Start with Product JSON-LD on product pages and Organization JSON-LD on the homepage. See the complete Shopify audit guide for 2026 and the Shopify GEO readiness playbook.
